Why I’m Not Going To Affiliate Summit East
Posted on 09. Jul, 2010 by Logan in Conferences
Yep, you heard that right, I’m not going to Affiliate Summit East in New York this year. If you are unfamiliar with Affiliate Summit, it is THE affiliate conference, and it saddens me that I’m not going.
Why Am I Not Going?
Well there are a few reasons, but the main reason is my daughter. She is only 3 months and I don’t really want to leave her that long (that is a lot of work for my wife).
Another reason is the costs don’t seem worth it to me this year. Don’t get me wrong, the costs of the conference isn’t a big deal, in fact I had a press pass so it was free if I had gone. Travel costs would probably be around $2000 to New York and I have to weigh the benefits. I’m not looking for any new affiliate networks, so I would probably spend most of my time hanging out with friends and my current affiliate managers. Is that really worth it right now from a business stance? Probably not, although it would be fun.
If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it as it is probably the best conference you’ll go to. I will definitely be going to Vegas in 2011. Hope everyone has a great time, and if you’re on the fence about going, I suggest you go (especially if you live on the east coast).
Have fun and let me know how it goes.

We’re gonna miss you, but I understand. It’s hard making that cross-country trip, taking a day on each end just for travel. Especially with a little one (or 3!) at home
I missed an affiliate summit a couple years ago, but haven’t missed one since. I often think I’ll skip the Vegas ones, but always end up going.

The show is definitely a good time.
I missed a couple shows a bit back because of the same thing. There will be more, and I would imagine that they will just keep getting better.
See you in Vegas man.

Although I don’t have no kids, I’m pretty sure they play a valuable role in a parent’s life. Not sure if I said it, but better late then never. Congrats on your daughter.

Logano! Sad we’re missing you this time around, but don’t worry. I’ll still save ya I deck.
Is she already three months? Crazy talk…and crazy cuteness!

Helloe logan,
I think that’s the best reason for not attending the summit. Family is important, I know I’ve got a 22month year old boy and a soon to be born girl in Sept.
Trying to find balance with family and business is getting harder

I could nearly copy/paste your entire blog post. We just had our 5th child, a 4 month old girl. Also, right now, I have my business pretty well dialed in. I’d only be going for social reasons.
Also, I’m planning on going to Vegas. But maybe you’ll let me take you to lunch sooner than that. I get up to Denver sometimes.
Take care Logan!

I’ll see you in Vegas. I moved from Denver in 2006. I’m back in Portland.
