Back in 2001 I first learned about affiliate programs and it got me interested. Like a lot of people do when they first start in the world of affiliate marketing I decided to load up a website I had with as many banners and promotions that I could, thinking that the more ads I had on my site, the more money I would make (it wasn’t until a year of an unsuccesful site that I realized that doesn’t work). Although that experience didn’t make me hardly anything, it did get me excited for the possibilities that affiliate marketing offers.
I remember the day that I went to the mailbox and got my first affiliate marketing check. You can view the huge check in the image with this post. A whole whopping $0.72. Yes, even I was to embarrased to take that check to the bank and still have it to this day giving me motivation.
You see that one check got me motivated to earn more and do what I could to make the next check even bigger. If I remember right I think the next check was for around $10 or so. From that point on I set a goal to increase my revenue every month and watch my checks grow. Although I haven’t hit this every month, it has really kept me motivated. I think of it almost like a game to see if I can outdo the month before and know exactly what number I need to reach my goal.
When setting goals, here are a few tips:
- Write your goal down and make sure you know it.
I write down my affiliate marketing goals every month and know exactly what that number is. - Prioritize the tasks needed to reach that goal.
What do you need to do and what is most important in reaching your goal. - Tell someone else what your goal is.
This will help keep you accountable and hopefully they will question you to see if you reached your goal for that month. - Set a goal that is attainable (but not too easy).
I know you want to reach $25,000 a month in commission, but that is unrealistic if you only made $200 this month. This means make sure you can reach your goals. - Set weekly, monthly, and yearly goals.
If you want to be making $10,000 a month after a year, figure out what your monthly goals are going to be to get there. Than set your weekly goals needed to reach your monthly goals. - Take action.
It is one thing to set a goal, it is another thing to take the action to reach it. It takes work to reach your goal so get to work and work smart. - Celebrate when you reach your goals and make it exciting.
Throw a party, or at least treat yourself to a nice dinner or something to reward yourself.
