Wow, it has been over 2 months (almost 3) since I’ve blogged on LoganThompson.me and I’m back. Were exactly have I been you ask?

Well, working on my business.

I’ve been working with my team on building up multiple new websites, buying websites, selling websites, launching mobile affiliate campaigns, launching social media campaigns, testing a plethora (yes, that’s one my favorite words) of SEO tools and services, and spending a lot of time working out (one of the benefits of earning passive income).

Since black Friday my business has grown quite a bit, plus I’ve lost over 20 pounds and am getting stronger day by day (working out with a personal trainer 3 times per week). To me the affiliate lifestyle isn’t about working 16+ hour  days, that’s just ridiculous and I feel bad for people who live like that.

If you follow Ad Hustler on Twitter, he tweeted a great quote yesterday that sums up my philosophy on working.

That’s why I love passive income. In fact some of my highest profit days I am no where near a computer.

So I’ve decided to take my blog in a new direction. Up until now I’ve just posted every now and then when something has been on my mind. I now plan on taking the knowledge that I have and helping others earn passive income online. In fact it’s not that difficult to do, it just takes time and a willingness to learn.

Unlike a lot of bloggers out there I don’t have an agenda. I’m not trying to pitch you on a 12 step system for making a billion dollars in 7 days. I’m here to help you out.

A few weeks ago I started reading the book The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau (a great read by the way), and I was inspired to create a life goal list. It was sitting in a file on my computer for the past few weeks and I pretty much forgot I started creating it. This morning I was checking out Dukeo.com and I saw that Stéphane posted his list right on his blog which inspired me to do the same.

I’ve created a new page on this blog that lists my goals of things I want to do in my lifetime.  I figure if I make it public there will be a better chance of me reaching some of these goals.

I just wanted to take a few minutes and let you guys know about a site a good friend of mine in the industry just created to help raise money for his mom’s medical issues. Unless you don’t pay attention to sports or the news, I’m sure you’ve heard that Randy Moss was let go by the Vikings.  So Moss plays for the Vikings 7 years, gets traded to the Raiders for 2 years, then traded to the Patriots for 4 years, than returns as a Viking to play just 4 games before they can him.

Man, it must suck to be a retailer who stocked up on Randy Moss Vikings jerseys. They are stuck with warehouses full of jerseys that will never sell. That’s business though, things change in a moments notice. Always be prepared and have a plan B in your business in case things change.

I thought this was a pretty cool Moss video and had to have an excuse to put it on my blog.  Enjoy.  I dare you to try and not bob your head.

So today I wanted to feature a little business failure which is a little different than other Fail Fridays have been in the past. In fact it’s not quite as obvious and is more like a terrible business practice that has left a slightly bad taste in my mouth about Best Buy.

This morning I checked my email and got this message from Best Buy (whom I have a rewards card with).

You are receiving this e-mail because Best Buy® has changed the way marketing e-mail communications are managed. Currently you are registered to receive marketing communications from the Reward Zone® program, but have opted to not receive marketing communications related to Best Buy generally.

We are writing to let you know that Best Buy has changed the way it manages opt-out preferences. Going forward, opting out of either Reward Zone or Best Buy marketing communications will result in being removed from both marketing lists. In order to honor your request to receive Reward Zone program e-mails containing special offers, invitations to events and account updates, you have been opted-in to receiving Best Buy marketing communications generally. If you do not wish to receive these e-mail communications, you will need to update your opt-out preferences. Please note that if you do opt-out of Best Buy marketing communications, you will also opt-out of marketing communications from Reward Zone. The point of this email is for them to tell me that they are automatically opting me into an email list that I already opted out of.  That is pretty poor business practices if you ask me.  Now I need top opt out again and mark all Best Buy emails as spam.

If you’re customers don’t want to read your emails, don’t send it to them.  It’s that simple.

This week I’m taking a little different approach for Fail Friday. I generally take a look at failed ads, products, or companies and have a laugh about it.

However this week I’m taking a look at a topic that is buzzing around the net that most people are perceiving as a fail, but I would have to disagree. Unless you’ve been hiding out with Osama Bin Laden this week, I’m sure you’ve heard about Gap’s new logo.

Here are their logos.  The old one is on the left and the new one is on the right.

Now yes, I agree with the majority of people that the new logo is pretty ugly.  It is so ugly that it has launched a TON of publicty for Gap.  It has even inspired sites to pop up such at CrapLogo.me where you can create an ugly logo like Gap’s.

Anyways, here is why I think their new logo is brilliant. Answer this question, when was the last time you have heard buzz about Gap? It’s been awhile. Since the logo change they have been featured in the news in a crap load of places. It would have cost them billions to pay for the amount of exposure they are getting using traditional advertising.

Another reason is that people know their logo now. It is incredible branding. Yeah, they may be known for having a terrible logo, but they are known.

I would have to applaud Gap’s marketing department.  They definitely got the Gap brand out into the world.  So while some might say their new logo is a FAIL, I would have to classify it as a marketing WIN.

The past 6 months since my daughter has been born I have severely neglected my blog.  I’ve put my time into other projects and have lost some focus on keeping this blog fresh and new.

It’s time for a change.

I’ve been looking at my goals and projects and figuring out where I need to spend my time.  One of those that I’ve decided to spend more time on is this blog.  I enjoy helping people learn new marketing and business ideas, so it’s time I get writing for reals.

As you may have noticed if you’ve seen this site before, its got a new design.  I took the Thesis theme and tweaked it a bit to get my new design.

There are still some things on the site I will be working on an tweaking, but I decided to just put it up and make changes to it as I go.

As far as content goes, I won’t be focusing exclusively on affiliate marketing.  There will be a broader range of posts regarding multiple types of Internet marketing and small business, although affiliate marketing will stay my main topic.

I hope you like the new design.  Let me know what you think.

Last night I went to a new local restaurant (Fireside Cafe in Vancouver, WA) with my wife and a few friends.  My friend had been raving about how great the place was for weeks and how great their nachos were, so we finally decided to go.  All excited for nachos, we sat down at the table.

When we ordered the nachos, the waitress said they were out of cheese (it was fairly close to closing time), but if we would wait they would send an employee to a supermarket and by some cheese just for us.  This was the first time I’ve been to a restaurant that was out of an item and was willing to go buy some more ingredients just for me.

We decided to wait for the nachos and they sent someone to get the cheese from a near by store.  I’m sure it wasn’t the most profitable thing for them to do, but it was impressive.  On a side note, they brought the nachos out on an extra large pizza tray and they were amazing.  The 4 of us couldn’t even eat through half of them.

This was my first time at the cafe and they provided such an amazing experience for me that I’ll definitely be back and let my friends know to try it out.

Treat Your Customers Right

It doesn’t matter if you are an online or offline business, do whatever you can to make a good impression on your customers.  Do what your competitors won’t just to make your customers happy.

Yeah, it might not be the most profitable thing to do, but they will be back if you treat them right.  You will also have them spreading news about you to their friends.

For those of you who know me, you know that I love a good craft beer. To me, beer is like art.  Each one is crafted differently and has different qualities to admire. I’m sort of a beverage fanatic and have finally decided to take my passion and make it into a blog.

I was deciding to start up a blog about craft beers and home brewing when I came across a site for sell that has been around since 2007 and already has some great content. I decided to buy it and just got it transfered over to me this week. There is still a lot of work to be done on it, but grab a beer and come check it out, bookmark it, and add it to your RSS feed.
